Like states across the nation, Idaho is trying to meet the challenge of more fraudulent IDs whether presented in person or by digital image. Alcohol Sales & Service Guidelines for Idaho

- Minimum age to consume: 21
- Minimum age to serve: 19
- Minimum age to bartend: 19

A person under 21 may not purchase alcoholic beverages as part of a law enforcement action.

Penalties for serving or selling to a minor: In Idaho, selling or giving alcohol to someone under 21 years old is a misdemeanor. The penalty for a first offense is a fine of at least $500 and up to $1,000 per violation, and/or up to one year in county jail. A second or subsequent offense can result in a fine of at least $1,000 and up to $2,000 per violation, and/or up to one year in county jail. The first offense can also result in a driver's license suspension of up to one year, and subsequent offenses can result in a suspension of up to two years. 

Businesses that sell alcohol to minors may also face additional penalties, such as loss of their liquor license and fines for the employees responsible. All fines collected are deposited into the substance abuse treatment fund.
