Alcohol Sales & Service Guidelines for Missouri
- Minimum age to consume: 21
- Minimum age to serve: 18
- Minimum age to bartend: 21
A person under 21 may purchase alcoholic beverages as part of a law enforcement action.
Penalties for serving or selling to a minor: In Missouri, selling or supplying alcohol to a minor is a misdemeanor that can result in a fine of up to $1,000 and/or up to one year in jail. The fine amount can be higher depending on the circumstances and may be as much as $5,000. The convicted individual may also be required to pay court costs and attorney fees and may be put on probation. Probation may include community service or other services.
Businesses with liquor licenses that sell alcohol to minors may face additional penalties, such as license suspension or revocation.
The law does not apply to supplying alcohol to a minor for medical purposes, or if it is administered by a licensed physician.
